Biography
Dr. Tareef Alaama is a highly respected executive leader with over 20 years of experience across multiple sectors. He has a distinguished track record of transformative achievements in healthcare leadership, strategic management, and higher education. His previous roles include serving as Deputy Minister for Therapeutic Services at the Ministry of Health, where he played a pivotal role in shaping national healthcare initiatives.
As President of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Tareef Alaama currently oversees more than 100,000 students and 15,000 employees across a campus exceeding 12 million square meters. Under his leadership, the university is advancing toward becoming a global, best-in-class entrepreneurial institution—focused on talent development, applied research, and economic impact.
His leadership philosophy centers on building and inspiring high-performing, cross-functional teams, driving innovation, and engaging diverse stakeholders through strategic communication and problem-solving.
Dr. Alaama is a physician , specialized in internal medicine and geratrics, and is a fellow of the American college of physicians, and a certified physician executive. His leadership education and training includes London business school, Harvard business school, Michigan Ross , and others.
In recognition of his service to the Kingdom, Dr. Tareef Alaama has been awarded the Order of King Abdulaziz, Second Class.
