The English Language Institute was established in 1975 in response to a request from King Abdulaziz University to the British Council, with the goal of offering an English language program for over five hundred students in the faculties of Engineering and Medicine. In 1982, the center became an independent unit under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, both academically and administratively, expanding to offer thirty specialized curricula to serve nearly two thousand students from various faculties. In 2006, the center was directly linked to the office of the Vice President of the University, and a supervisory committee was formed, chaired by the Vice President including the center director and others. In 2008, the center was renamed the "English Language Institute" to teach English as an academic requirement for preparatory year students. Today, the English Language Institute at King Abdulaziz University is a leading institution dedicated to achieving excellence in English language teaching and learning. The institute offers comprehensive programs aimed at enhancing students' English proficiency, and preparing them for academic, professional, and personal success. It focuses on innovative teaching methods and provides the latest educational resources, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Additionally, the institute places great importance on supporting the development of faculty members and advancing research in language education to ensure that its programs remain at the forefront of linguistic and educational advancements.
