Biography

Professor of Embryology and Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine. He is the Secretary of the Board of Trustees at King Abdulaziz University and Dean of the Deanship of Quality and Academic Accreditation. He also chairs the Deans' Committee for Quality in Saudi Universities and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Faqih Medical College and Al-Rayan Medical College.

His previous positions include: Founding Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Rabigh, Vice Dean for Development at the Deanship of Community Service, and General Supervisor of the University's Community Responsibility Management. He also served as Deputy Chair of the Medical Research Ethics Committee for several years and Head of the Department of Anatomy. He is the founding head of the Medical Information Technology Unit at the Faculty of Medicine. In 2007, he introduced electronic exams for the first time at Saudi medical colleges. He was also a supervisor of the Master’s program in Medical Anatomy.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from King Abdulaziz University, and both a Master's and Ph.D. from Cardiff University in the UK. He also holds a certificate in Academic Leadership in Medical Education from the University of Dundee and a certificate in Medical Education Skills from the National University of Singapore. He has published over thirty research papers and co-authored several books in his field of specialization and in the area of educational quality assurance.

He supervised the first two Ph.D. theses in the department, one for a doctor from the University of Jeddah and one for a doctor from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.

He is an accredited Quality and Academic Accreditation Reviewer with the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) and has chaired and participated in numerous institutional and program reviews. He has also chaired several committees at the university and participated in many international conferences and workshops.
