The Department of Statistics was established in 1399/1400 AH (corresponding to 1979/1980 AD) to be one of the leading academic departments in the faculty. Its goal is to provide excellent education in various branches of statistics. The department focuses on teaching and training students in both fundamental and advanced principles of statistics, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, advanced data analysis, mathematical modeling, multivariate data analysis, and other specializations that contribute to understanding and analyzing data across different scientific and industrial fields. The department aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand statistical interactions and analyze data in terms of patterns and trends. In addition, it applies this knowledge in various fields such as economics, health, engineering, and energy. The department also emphasizes the development of research and analytical skills among students through practical experiments and research applications, which help enhance their ability to process data and make informed decisions. The department offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, where students learn how to apply statistical concepts in fields such as industrial data analysis, biostatistics, economic analysis techniques, and mathematical modeling. The department also fosters research collaboration with academic and industrial institutions locally and internationally to support the application of statistics in solving social and industrial problems. The Department of Statistics endeavors to prepare a generation of analysts and researchers capable of facing scientific and technical challenges in various fields of statistics, contributing to the support of the national economy and achieving sustainable development.
