The Department of Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh Campus, was established in 1430 AH (2009 ). The department is responsible for teaching the basic microbiology course during the foundational years of medical education. Due to the integrated nature of the curriculum, the Department of Microbiology participates in teaching nearly all system units. The department focuses on the study of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, providing essential knowledge to understand their characteristics, reproduction, and their impact on diseases and prevention. The department is also involved in teaching laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for infectious diseases and participates in scientific research that contributes to improving medical and health solutions for combating infectious diseases. The department aims to acquire and apply medical microbiology knowledge through clinical sciences, benefit from active learning opportunities in the laboratory to deepen practical understanding and enhance awareness of infection control principles to be applied in clinical and community settings.
