The Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh Branch, was established alongside the faculty's inception in 2009. The department specializes in teaching biochemistry to medical students, as it is a fundamental medical science that focuses on studying the chemical composition of cellular components in living organisms, their locations, and their biological functions. Additionally, the department emphasizes understanding the chemical reactions occurring within cells, whether related to anabolic and synthetic processes or catabolic processes and energy production, contributing to a deeper understanding of biological processes at the molecular level. The department aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of biochemical processes in the body, including the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, as well as the study of enzymes, hormones, and other chemical substances. It also focuses on understanding the chemical changes that occur in pathological conditions, enabling students to interpret laboratory results and effectively utilize them in medical diagnostics.
