The Deanship of Scientific Research at King Abdulaziz University is the body responsible for organizing, supporting, and enhancing scientific research within the university, with the aim of achieving excellence and innovation in various scientific fields. The deanship was established in 1427 AH (2006 AD) to oversee scientific research affairs according to the unified regulation for scientific research in Saudi universities, issued in 1419 AH (1998 AD) by the Higher Education Council. The establishment of the deanship has gone through several phases. The task of scientific research was assigned to the Scientific Research Council during the period between 1408 AH and 1418 AH (1988-1998 AD). Then, the Research and Consultation Institute was created in 1418 AH (1998 AD) to supervise external consultations. In 1425 AH (2004 AD), the Scientific Research Council was abolished, and its responsibilities were assigned to the Research and Consultation Institute. Finally, in 1427 AH (2006 AD), the Deanship of Scientific Research was established in addition to the Research and Consultation Institute. The deanship works to provide an encouraging research environment, offering material and administrative support to researchers, and promoting innovation and development in line with national priorities and Vision 2030.
