About the Department The Department of Geography and Geography Information Systems at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King Abdulaziz University, was established in the academic year 1391/1392 AH (1971/1972) and is one of the earliest departments created in the faculty. The department offers a Bachelor's degree in Geography, a Master's degree, as well as a diploma program in Cartography and Geography Information Systems (GIS), which can be activated once a sufficient number of students enroll. The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems aims to provide specialized education in geography and spatial data analysis using GIS. The department supports both the educational and research processes through various facilities, including the Cartography Lab, GIS Lab, Image Analysis Lab, and Soil Lab, all of which are equipped with advanced computer systems, scanning devices, and surveying equipment to analyze data accurately. The department works to prepare graduates who are capable of working in fields such as urban planning, natural resource management, geographic surveying, and environmental studies, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of local and regional communities.
