About the Department The Department of Information Science at King Abdulaziz University was established in 1393 AH (1973) under the name "Libraries and Information," making it the first academic department in this field at universities in the Kingdom. The department has played a pioneering role in the field of libraries and information, which is a core discipline both locally and globally. On 6/1/1430 AH, the department's name was changed to "Department of Information Science" with the approval of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Prime Minister, and the President of the Higher Education Council. The department aims to enhance students' skills in scientific research, data analysis, information systems design, and digital content management. It offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, allowing students to apply what they have learned to address complex knowledge challenges. The department seeks to prepare graduates who are qualified to work in fields such as libraries, information archiving, information technology, and data security, contributing to the improvement of knowledge systems and supporting decision-making processes in various institutions.
