Department of Mining Engineering

The Department of Mining Engineering was established in 1394/1395 AH (1975 AD) as an academic department specializing in teaching and training students in the techniques of extracting and processing minerals and natural resources from the earth. The department focuses on providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the engineering processes involved in the safe and efficient design and extraction of minerals, as well as developing modern methods to improve the sustainability of the mining industry. The department covers a wide range of topics, including mineral exploration, various mining methods (such as surface and underground mining), mineral processing, natural resource management, and issues related to safety, the environment, and economics in the mining industry. It also addresses the use of modern technology in data analysis and mining processes to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. The department offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, where students learn to design mining processes, select appropriate equipment, and analyze the economic feasibility of mining projects. The department also focuses on scientific research in areas such as environmental technologies in mining, sustainable resource extraction, and improving operational efficiency. The Department of Mining Engineering aims to prepare specialized engineers capable of addressing complex challenges in the mining industry and developing innovative methods that contribute to the safe and sustainable extraction of resources, thus benefiting the national economy and supporting sustainable development.
