Department of Mining Engineering

The Department of Mining Engineering was established in 1394/1395 AH (1975 AD) to meet the requirements of development plans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to support the mining sector as one of the strategic pillars of the national economy. The department is dedicated to academically and practically preparing students in the fields of mineral extraction and processing, with a focus on designing and implementing mining operations safely and efficiently. The department offers academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, covering topics such as mineral exploration, surface and underground mining methods, mineral processing, and natural resource management, in addition to safety, environmental, and economic aspects of the mining industry, and the application of modern technologies to improve efficiency and enhance sustainability. The department supports educational and research activities through six specialized laboratories, including two central laboratories equipped with advanced instruments for experimental work and measurements, in addition to teaching laboratories. It also places strong emphasis on scientific research in the areas of sustainable mining and environmental technologies. The Mining Engineering program has undergone accreditation reviews by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (ABET) in multiple cycles and is currently accredited through 2027.
