Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at King Abdulaziz University was established in 1982 by a decision from the Supreme Council of Universities. It is one of the leading academic departments in mechanical engineering in the Kingdom, created to meet the growing needs of Saudi Arabia in industrial and technological development. The department offers a comprehensive program in machine design, production engineering, applied mechanics, and thermal engineering, including air conditioning, desalination, and renewable energy systems. In 1983, the department was reorganized into two specialized areas: Production Engineering and Mechanical Systems Design and Thermal Engineering and Water Desalination. The department focuses on developing students' skills in designing and analyzing advanced mechanical systems, covering a wide range of areas such as dynamics, stress analysis, manufacturing technology, materials science, and energy. The department offers undergraduate and graduate academic programs, with a strong emphasis on practical training through projects and advanced laboratories. It also participates in scientific research and fosters collaboration with the local industry through consulting, seminars, workshops, and training courses, thus facilitating knowledge transfer between the university and industry. The department aims to prepare engineers capable of tackling emerging engineering challenges by providing innovative solutions that contribute to the progress of both local and international industries, supporting the sustainable development of the Kingdom.
