Department of pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics was initially established as part of the Department of Internal Medicine until it became an independent department in 1398H (1978). It is one of the vital departments in medical education, focusing on training students in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting children of all age groups. The department aims to provide comprehensive education covering various aspects of pediatrics, from primary healthcare to specialized pediatric fields such as pediatric neurology, cardiology, respiratory diseases, hematology, endocrinology, gastrointestinal diseases, and neonatology. Students are trained in diagnostic methods and treatments through educational programs that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience in university hospitals. The department emphasizes the development of clinical skills by exposing students to a variety of medical cases in a clinical environment and ensuring that they learn how to provide comprehensive healthcare and optimal care for children. Additionally, the department aims to enhance scientific research in pediatrics by supporting innovative studies to improve diagnostic and treatment methods for children. It also promotes collaboration with local and international institutions to exchange knowledge and expertise. The Department of Pediatrics seeks to prepare specialized pediatricians capable of providing integrated healthcare for children, contributing to the improvement of the national healthcare system and supporting the Kingdom’s vision to enhance healthcare quality.
