Hematology

The Department of Hematology is one of the leading academic departments within the Faculty of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University. It is dedicated to teaching and training in all aspects of hematology, covering both theoretical and clinical disciplines. Faculty members actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education, curriculum development, and supervision of scientific research. The department is responsible for several core courses within the medical curriculum and contributes to interdisciplinary teaching across other health-related colleges. Faculty members contribute to the advancement of the field through scientific research and oversee the Hematology Research Unit at King Fahd Medical Research Center. The department's members founded the Saudi Society of Hematology affiliated with the university. They also supervise the peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the society (Journal of Applied Hematology) and organize numerous educational and training activities under its umbrella. At the university hospital, the department provides diagnostic and therapeutic services related to blood diseases and supervises the Blood Transfusion Services Unit (Blood Bank).
