Emergency Medicine Department

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, was established in response to the growing demand for emergency and critical healthcare services. It is one of the College’s key clinical and academic departments, integrating patient care, medical education, and scientific research. The specialty is distinguished by its broad scope, enabling emergency physicians to manage a wide spectrum of medical and surgical emergencies across all age groups, with a strong emphasis on rapid assessment, timely clinical decision-making, and life-saving interventions based on the latest evidence-based practices. The Department is guided by a vision of excellence in emergency care, medical education, clinical training, and research. Its mission is to prepare highly competent physicians equipped with the clinical and leadership skills required to manage emergency and critically ill patients with professionalism and efficiency. To achieve this, the Department provides comprehensive educational and training programs for undergraduate medical students, residents, and fellowship trainees, while actively promoting continuing medical education, academic excellence, and research. The Department delivers advanced emergency medical services 24 hours a day through its emergency care units, resuscitation facilities, triage services, and observation units, ensuring timely, safe, and high-quality patient care. It is committed to continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and excellence in clinical practice. In addition, the Department plays an active role in community engagement through health awareness initiatives, disaster preparedness and response, and collaboration with healthcare and academic institutions, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and social responsibility.
