Clinical Pharmacology

The Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, was established in 1977 and is one of the core academic departments dedicated to teaching the principles of pharmacology and therapeutics, promoting the safe and effective use of medications, and advancing scientific research and consultation services in the field of pharmacology. The Department plays a pivotal role in bridging basic medical sciences with clinical practice by teaching drug mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, therapeutic applications, and adverse drug effects, thereby preparing future physicians to make evidence-based therapeutic decisions. The Department is guided by a vision of achieving excellence in medical education, scientific research, and consultation services in pharmacology and therapeutics. Its mission is to prepare graduates with the knowledge and competencies required for the rational use of medicines, promote research and innovation, and contribute to the advancement of therapeutic practice and healthcare quality in accordance with international standards. To achieve this vision and mission, the Department offers comprehensive educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributes to the development of integrated medical curricula, supervises postgraduate education, and promotes research in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology. The Department also provides specialized consultation and research services in drug evaluation, pharmacovigilance, bioequivalence, and rational drug use, while actively contributing to continuing medical education, public awareness, and collaboration with healthcare and academic institutions at the local, regional, and international levels.
