Department of Neurology
The Department of Neurology is one of the core clinical departments within the Faculty of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University (KAU). It provides comprehensive medical care for patients with central and peripheral nervous system disorders while maintaining a leading role in education, research, and community service. The department was established in late 2023, following the decision of the Universities Affairs Council to separate the Neurology Unit from the Department of Internal Medicine, officially forming an independent Department of Neurology at KAU. This step reflects the university’s commitment to keeping pace with rapid advances in neuroscience and to creating a specialized academic environment that enhances clinical training and high-quality medical education. The department includes a distinguished team of faculty members and consultants covering a wide range of subspecialties, including stroke, multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, epilepsy, peripheral nerve and muscle disorders, movement disorders, and dementia. Academically, the department contributes to undergraduate teaching through courses shared with the Department of Internal Medicine, oversees the Adult Neurology Fellowship Program accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), and plays an active role in training residents and medical interns.
