Department of Preventive Medicine and Public

The Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health is one of the core academic departments at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University. The Department is dedicated to preparing physicians with the knowledge and skills required to promote the health of individuals and communities and prevent disease through the integration of Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Education, and Health Program Management. It focuses on studying the determinants of health and the environmental and social factors that influence population health, analyzing public health challenges, and developing evidence-based strategies for disease prevention and control. The Department is guided by a vision of achieving excellence in education, scientific research, and community service in the fields of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Its mission is to prepare competent healthcare professionals capable of promoting community health, preventing diseases, applying the principles of public health, and contributing to the advancement of healthcare systems through high-quality education, innovative research, and community partnerships. To fulfill this vision and mission, the Department offers comprehensive educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervises field training and practical learning activities, and fosters a culture of research and innovation. It also provides scientific consultation in the fields of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Health Education, and Health Program Management. In addition, the Department actively contributes to community service through disease prevention initiatives, health promotion programs, support for public health policies, and collaboration with healthcare and academic institutions at the local, regional, and international levels.
