The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Faculty of Medicine is one of the key departments in training specialists in Anesthesiology and critical care. The department became an independent entity in 1411 AH, after being separated from the Department of Surgery. Despite its relatively recent establishment, the department is considered one of the largest in the Kingdom in terms of the number of Saudi faculty members and its active participation in scientific forums and conferences, both locally and internationally. The department’s goal is to provide outstanding education in the fields of Anesthesiology and intensive care. It trains students, including those in graduate programs, in the latest techniques in Anesthesiology and the management of critically ill patients. This training includes Anesthesiology management during surgeries (general and local anesthesia), as well as the care of patients in intensive care units who require close monitoring and extended support. The department places a strong emphasis on developing clinical and practical skills through hands-on training in university hospitals. Students gain experience in managing complex medical cases, including pain management and providing emergency care in intensive care settings. In addition to education and training, the department is committed to advancing research in Anesthesiology and intensive care. It participates in pioneering studies aimed at improving treatment techniques and enhancing healthcare in the Kingdom.
