About

The Faculty of Earth Sciences is one of the oldest educational institutions in Applied Geology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since its establishment in 1970 named the Center of Applied Geology under the UNESCO. The aim of establishing the center at that time was to train Saudi geologists in the fields of field geology and search for mineral resources by qualifying them for higher Diplomas, M.Sc. and PhD. The various scientific departments of the institute continued to cope with the different needs of development, as the Department of Hydrogeology was added in 1972 and the Technical Training Department was added to train technicians working in the General Directorate of Mineral Resources on various artistic works in 1973. In 1974, the Engineering Geology department was added. In 1975 the center was included at King Abdulaziz University under the name of the Institute of Applied Geology. Then the Institute and the Geology department of the King Abdulaziz University were merged under the name of the Faculty of Earth Sciences in 1978.
