20260412890The Faculty of Earth Sciences is one of the oldest educational institutions in the field of applied geology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established in 1390 AH /1970 under the name "Applied Geology Center," affiliated with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The goal of establishing the center was to train Saudi geologists in field geology and the search for mineral resources by qualifying them for advanced diplomas, master's degrees, and doctorates. In 1395 AH /1975, the center was merged with the Department of Geology at King Abdulaziz University under the name "Institute of Applied Geology." The institute and the Department of Geology at the university were later merged in 1398 AH (1978) to form the " Faculty of Earth Sciences." The faculty's programs have undergone significant developments, making it one of the first in the Kingdom to offer master's and doctoral programs. It enjoys an internationally respected position. The College of Earth Sciences stands out as the only institution in the Kingdom and the Arab world to offer a bachelor's degree in applied geology in several specialized fields, including mineral resources, hydrology, engineering and environmental geology, petroleum geology and sedimentology, structural geology, remote sensing, geophysics, and geological exploration techniques. These specialized scientific departments contribute to preparing qualified human resources to exploit the natural resources that God has bestowed upon the Kingdom. This aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and supports the ongoing development boom that the Kingdom is experiencing.
