Department of History and Archaeology

About the Department The Department of History and Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King Abdulaziz University, was established in the academic year 1391/1392 AH (1971/1972) as the second department to be founded after the Department of European Languages. Since its establishment, the department has carried out its academic mission of studying history and archaeology, offering undergraduate and graduate students exceptional education in human history and civilizations. It promotes an understanding of the development of nations and societies throughout the ages. The department focuses on the study of both ancient and modern history, with particular emphasis on the history of Saudi Arabia, the Arab and Islamic world, and global history. It also gives great importance to archaeology as an integral part of cultural heritage, including field studies and analytical research of archaeological sites. The department has produced numerous graduates who have contributed significantly in various sectors, such as education, media, diplomacy, and other fields. Its goal is to prepare specialists in historical research and cultural heritage preservation, thereby enhancing historical understanding across different societies and contributing to the preservation of national and global heritage.
