Department of Clinical Psychology

The Department of Clinical Psychology at King Abdulaziz University was established in 1443 AH to prepare specialized psychologists in diagnosing and treating psychological, emotional, and behavioral disorders. The department focuses on training students to provide psychological support and treatment for individuals suffering from mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. It also emphasizes developing students' skills in assessing patients' psychological status using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, as well as applying therapeutic strategies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories on both campuses for psychological assessment and clinical diagnosis, furnished with the latest devices according to the highest standards of clinical training. Additionally, the department offers students the opportunity to engage with a wide range of theoretical materials that form the cognitive aspect of their education, alongside intensive practical training in the department’s laboratories and psychological clinics. The fifth year of the program is designated as the internship year, where students graduate highly qualified and prepared to work in mental healthcare services following the global standards required by the regulatory bodies of healthcare practice.
