Department of Public Relations

The Department of Public Relations is one of the core academic departments in the College of Communication and Media at King Abdulaziz University. Its academic roots date back to 1976, when public relations emerged as a track within the Department of Media, one of the earliest media departments in the Kingdom and the Arab world. The track was later transformed into an independent department under a specialized college in 2012, with a developed curriculum aligned with global programs and labor market needs. The department aims to prepare specialized professionals in public relations and corporate communication who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to manage communication with diverse audiences, build institutional image, plan media campaigns, manage crises, and organize events. The academic program focuses on areas such as corporate communication, media planning, event and protocol management, digital public relations, content creation, and communication campaigns. This enables students to develop effective communication skills, media monitoring and analysis capabilities, and institutional reputation management expertise. The department adopts an applied learning environment that includes field training and practical projects, enhancing graduates’ readiness to work in public relations, corporate communication management, official spokesperson roles, conference and event organization, social media communication, and diplomatic and media work across various sectors. The department offers several academic programs, including: Diploma in Public Relations Practice Bachelor’s in Public Relations (conditionally accredited by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission – NCAAA) Professional Master’s in Public Relations Academic Master’s in Communication and Media with a thesis focus on public relations (conditionally accredited by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission – NCAAA) PhD in Communication and Media with a specialized track in public relations
