Regulations:

1. The Excellence Award for Scientific Publication is granted according to the regulations for disbursing the Excellence Award allowance to Saudi faculty members and their equivalents at universities, as attached to the letter of His Excellency the Minister of Education No. (9285) dated 27/5/1431 AH. The papers must be published in ISI-indexed journals and ranked according to the total journals in the relevant discipline(s) based on Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) databases.
2. The Excellence Award allowance is granted only to Saudi faculty members and their equivalents
3. The award is paid to eligible recipients for a period of two years (starting from the first salary after the disbursement decision), unless a decision is issued to stop the payment or if the applicant (faculty member) commits a violation that requires stopping the payment, reclaiming the full award, or both.
4. The maximum award is 100% of the first step of the basic salary of the faculty member or their equivalent..
5. Submitting a new application is not allowed if the active disbursement rate is already 100%..
6. If the applicant submits a request that would exceed the maximum limit (100%), the applicant will be required to either agree to waive the remaining percentage or cancel the application.
7. The applicant must attach the full published version of the scientific paper, in its final form as it appears in the journal, including all formatting and official publication details. Accepted Manuscripts or Preprints are not accepted, nor is partial submission or any additions to the paper.
8. The publication can be sole-authored or co-authored in a journal indexed in the relevant discipline
9. The primary affiliation (first author) of the researcher in the published paper and in the Web of Science report must be King Abdulaziz University, explicitly including the university name, city, and country as follows, without abbreviations or additions.

10. The corresponding author communicating with the journal must be one of the authors of the scientific paper.
11. The Web of Science Core Collection database is considered the primary and sole reference for issuing the paper report.
12. The journal must have a report in the Journal Citation Report (JCR) in the Web of Science databases for the year prior to the publication year; no other references are accepted..
13. Only citation indexes labeled “Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)” and “Social Science Citation Index (SSCI)” are accepted for the journals in which the research was published, according to the regulations issued by the Ministry of Education.
14. The Research Excellence Award can be requested only for papers that are published and listed in the Web of Science database, with the status “Published” and a publication date in the paper report on the Web of Science site.
15. Applications for the award are not accepted for papers with the status “Early Access” in the Web of Science paper report.
16. The award is granted for published papers of the type Original Research Article (Article) as shown in the Web of Science paper report.
17. The award is also granted for published papers of the type Review as shown in the Web of Science paper report, provided they fall into Category “A” or “B” only. This applies to publications in 2024 and subsequent years.
18. The category and percentage of the award are determined based on the type of publication, using the arithmetic mean of the ratio of the journal category ranking to the total number of categories according to the Journal Citation Report (JCR) for the year prior to publication, not based on the quartile (Q1-Q4) of the journal, as illustrated in the following table:

19. The award percentage is divided equally among all authors of the published paper, regardless of their academic rank, role in the research, or contribution percentage. It is disbursed to eligible recipients according to the regulations mentioned in Clause (1).
20. A journal is classified as local if the country of the journal, according to the Journal Citation Report in the Web of Science database, is Saudi Arabia, and it has a ranking among the total journals in the relevant discipline(s) for the year preceding the publication year, falling within the citation indexes mentioned in Clause 13
21. The Excellence Award is granted for repeated publications in the same journal in the same publication year according to the following rules:

22. The Research Excellence Award is granted only for scientific papers published in the most recent calendar year and the three preceding calendar years at most..
23. The Department Chair must verify that the attached file is the full published version of the scientific paper, in its final form as it appears in the journal, including all formatting and official publication details, and that it falls within the researcher’s field of specialization..
24. The Department Chair must also verify that the researcher’s name in the paper matches the name in the University Services System..
25. The Dean of the College must verify that the attached file is the full published version of the scientific paper, in its final form as it appears in the journal, including all formatting and official publication details..
26. The Dean must also verify that the researcher’s name in the paper matches the name in the University Services System..
27. If the applicant fails to comply with the regulations and commitment, the department or the college dean has the right to return the application to the researcher for correction or to reject the application..
28. The Department Council and the College Council must recommend eligibility in accordance with these regulations..
29. The applicant has the right to inquire about the status of the application submitted to the Deanship or previously processed within a period not exceeding one year from the date the application was received by the Deanship..
30. The Deanship of Scientific Research or the Permanent Committee for the Excellence Award has the right to add, change, or modify these regulations as long as it does not conflict with the official rules..
