Construction and foundation

The idea of establishing a major private university in Jeddah was conceived to serve as a beacon of knowledge and a center for national development. From the very beginning, the project received the support of the Saudi leadership, as King Faisal bin Abdulaziz (may he rest in peace) chaired the founding committee of the project on 25/3/1384 AH. King Khalid bin Abdulaziz (may he rest in peace) and members of the royal family also contributed through donations and initiatives.

A founding committee of 38 members from various sectors was elected, and both financial and in-kind donations helped secure a fully equipped campus for the university. Through specialized committees and consultations with international experts, the scientific and administrative foundations of the university were established to ensure that it meets the needs of the nation.

Thanks to this support and careful planning, King Abdulaziz University was launched as a distinguished academic institution aligned with the Kingdom’s aspirations in education and development. The university facilities were prepared and expanded to include warehouses, sports fields, laboratories, the university administration headquarters, and lecture halls.

For nearly a month, the committees continued to hold meetings to provide reports and studies outlining the general framework for scientific planning during the university’s early stages. These reports emphasized the importance of beginning with the Faculty of Economics to address the educational and economic needs of that period. Expertise from consultants and professors from internationally renowned universities was utilized to ensure solid scientific and administrative foundations for the institution.
