The department of Water Resources was established in 1398 AH (1977 AD) as one of the four main departments of the College of Environmental Sciences. It is concerned with teaching surface and groundwater sciences and water resources management, including irrigation and drainage, urban water engineering, statistical hydrology, modeling of water flow in wadis and groundwater systems, flood risk mitigation, and the design of hydraulic structures for flood protection. The department also emphasizes the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing in water-related applications, the preparation of technical reports, and the application of computer software in water studies.
