Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology was established in 1395/1396 A.H. 1974/1975G, to offer courses in meteorology, weather changes and forecasting. Its goals have expanded since 1403 A.H. to include the study of the lower atmosphere (the planetary boundary layer), as it is one of the main factors that affect the environment, agriculture and water resources. It is well known that changes in weather affect on human activities in various areas such as agriculture, road traffic, aviation and urban planning. Meteorology as an applied science links to other modern branches of sciences. This link strengthened, particularly by the progress in computational facilities and satellite technology. The department offers the following modules: Methods of Observations and Remote Sensing, Climatology, Dynamic Meteorology, Physical Meteorology, Synoptic Meteorology, Micrometeorology, Agrometeorology.
