The Department of Biology was established in 1973 to be a leader in biology education and scientific research in the Kingdom. The department aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge in various branches of biology, including microbiology, genetics, histology, marine biology, and ecology. It offers a wide range of academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on developing research skills, experimental analysis, and enhancing collaboration with scientific and governmental institutions, as well as production centers, to address industry, environmental, and societal issues related to the field of biology. The department provides an exceptional educational and research environment for students through laboratories equipped with the latest technologies, such as the electron microscope unit, as well as research labs like those for virology and molecular biology. Additionally, the department houses a biology museum, a fish museum, and a botanical herbarium. It also utilizes distance learning technologies to support students in their learning and research.
