Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry is one of the leading academic departments in the Faculty of Sciences, established in 1404/1405 AH (1984/1983 AD) to serve as a center of excellence in teaching and advancing biochemistry sciences. The department aims to provide distinguished education in various branches of biochemistry, focusing on training students in both fundamental and advanced principles, such as the study of proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, metabolism, genetics, immunology, and cellular biochemistry. The department strives to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the chemical interactions that occur within living organisms and how these interactions influence the functions of cells and organs. It also emphasizes training students to use modern biochemistry techniques, such as spectroscopy, separation methods, and molecular biology techniques, to analyze biological and chemical data and understand the molecular foundations of diseases.
