Partnerships and Agreements

The Medical Genomics Institute (Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research) at King Abdulaziz University aims to enhance its research and diagnostic role through impactful strategic partnerships at both the local and international levels. Locally, the institute signed a cooperation agreement with the National Guard Health Affairs to exchange expertise and implement joint projects in cancer and complex disease research. It also partnered with the global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to establish “Roya” labs within the university hospital, providing advanced diagnostic services in areas such as breast and ovarian cancer, as part of national transformation initiatives. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed with King Faisal Specialist Hospital to establish a central pharmacogenomics laboratory, focused on localizing specialized lab services, training professionals, and achieving international accreditations. Internationally, the institute is part of a broad research network with leading institutions such as IGIB and the National Institute of Immunology in India, the University of Turku in Finland, the University of Manchester, King’s College London, the University of Bristol, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, as well as the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Georgetown University, the University of Tokyo, the University of Toronto, the University of Nottingham, and several others in the United States, Switzerland, and Spain. The institute also maintains an extensive national collaboration network with university hospitals and healthcare institutions across various regions of the Kingdom, supporting specialized research in areas including colorectal and breast cancer, hematological disorders, hereditary neurological diseases, deafness, and stem cells. These partnerships reflect the institute’s commitment to expanding its scientific impact and solidifying its position as a national leader in precision medicine and genomics research, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
