Department of Hydrographic Surveying

The Department of Hydrographic Surveying at the Faculty of Marine Studies, King Abdulaziz University, is a specialized department in the field of hydrographic surveying, which is a branch of applied sciences focused on measuring and describing the physical characteristics of navigable parts of the Earth's surface and associated coastal areas, with an emphasis on their use in navigation. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Hydrographic Surveying, and the program has been designed to comply with the university's regulations and the requirements of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) for Category A level, according to the latest S-10 edition of 2010. Additionally, the program includes several elective units such as photogrammetry and image analysis, marine geophysical surveying, and non-marine hydrographic surveying. The department aims to provide a distinguished educational program in Saudi Arabia, as this program is the first of its kind and unique in the Middle East, with no other educational institution in the region offering a similar program. The department focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply hydrographic surveying techniques in fields such as marine navigation, search and rescue, and marine resource management, contributing to the improvement of marine chart accuracy and the protection of the marine environment.
