Bachelor Electrical Engineering

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The Department offers a program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Qualified students can complete the program in 10 semesters. Besides the core electrical engineering courses, students are allowed to choose five elective courses in order to specialize in one of the department areas of concentration. Students are allowed to complete the field training in the summer semester of the fourth level over a period of eight weeks, equivalent to two credit units. The electrical engineering courses are strengthened by a two final year senior project courses and a compulsory practical industrial training course. The former provides students the design and applications skills; while the later introduces students to real work environment challenges and links them with local relevant industry.

Bachelor Industrial Engineering

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is undergoing rapid changes in various sectors of economy. In particular, manufacturing firms, engineering enterprises and organizations are becoming more complex. To be competitive in the global environment, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requires sufficient number of industrial engineers who are well trained to design, install, maintain and manage complex industrial operations and manufacturing systems. In line with this development, the Department of Industrial Engineering was established in the Faculty of Engineering, King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh Campus in 1430/1431 AH. Currently, the department offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) program based on the curriculum established in 2013 (1435 AH). Industrial Engineering is a discipline known for its breadth of scope and applications. It is not only concerned with technology, but also with people and operational issues. It combines scientific and technical knowledge with human sciences to design, plan, and analyze systems that involve people, materials, money, energy, equipment, information and other related resources. The most distinct aspect of industrial engineering is the flexibility it offers. Because of its broad perspective, industrial engineering is applicable in a wide variety of industries, including: manufacturing, health care, banking, insurance, transportation, construction, utilities, and government agencies. The BSIE program prepares students to work in activities such as manufacturing process planning and control, automation, production methods and standards, computer integrated manufacturing, information systems and statistical data analysis, facilities design and optimization of industrial operations. For industrial engineering graduates to function effectively within interdisciplinary environment, the proposed curriculum gives more emphasis on broad engineering sciences courses. To accommodate the job market in the surrounding industrial areas, changes to the curriculum and course contents were carried out. The comparative studies with various universities were performed for benchmarking. To achieve the requirements of professional licensure for engineers, the FE Exam topics are considered in the proposed curriculum. This report presents proposal for an updated curriculum for Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering to be offered by the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KAU Rabigh.
