The Vice Deanship of the Mining College for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at King Abdulaziz University organized a scientific lecture entitled “Petrogenesis and the Potential for Porphyry Copper Deposits Associated with Intermediate to Felsic Intrusions in the Dawadmi District, Eastern Arabian Shield.” The lecture was delivered by Mr. Yahya Hassan Talbi, a researcher specializing in mineral resources and rocks, at the Mining College auditorium.

The lecture presented a scientific study integrating the petrographic and structural characteristics of intermediate to felsic igneous intrusions in the Dawadmi District. Drawing on high-precision geochemical analytical data, the study aimed to interpret the petrogenesis of these rocks, determine their tectonic setting, and assess the suitability of their geological characteristics for hosting porphyry copper deposits (PCDs).

The study highlighted the importance of integrating petrographic and geochemical indicators to understand the evolution of magmatic systems associated with igneous intrusions and to identify characteristics that may indicate favorable conditions for copper mineralization. It also focused on developing mineral fertility criteria that can be used to evaluate the potential occurrence of porphyry copper deposits, thereby supporting mineral exploration activities in the Dawadmi District and other areas of the Arabian Shield.

This lecture reflects the Mining College’s commitment to advancing specialized scientific research in Earth sciences and mineral resources. It also underscores the role of petrographic and geochemical studies in developing tools for assessing mineral potential, contributing to scientific understanding of the Arabian Shield’s resources and enhancing opportunities for mineral exploration in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
