Academic Master's Program in Communication and Media

Media

The Master of Communication and Media Program was established in 1433H (2012) following the approval of the Department of Media Council at its tenth meeting held on 28/6/1433H. The program was subsequently presented to the Council of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at its seventh meeting held on 23/7/1433H, Under Resolution No. (10), the Faculty Council recommended the approval of the Master of Communication and Media Program as a coursework-and-thesis master's degree. The University's President approved the Council's minutes through Letter No. 103545/33/D dated 18/8/1433H. This approval was granted prior to the separation of the Department of Media from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which later resulted in the establishment of the Faculty of Communication and Media. The new faculty comprised four bachelor's degree programs in addition to the Master of Communication and Media Program. The Faculty of Communication and Media was officially established during the 1433H academic year pursuant to Administrative Decision No. 2415/Q dated 30/11/1433H. Its establishment aimed to prepare qualified national professionals in the fields of communication, media, arts, and related disciplines, enabling them to contribute to national development objectives and promote these achievements through local and international media platforms.

Bachelor of Journalism and Digital Media Program

JOURNALISM AND DIGITAL MEDIA

The Journalism and Digital Media Program traces its origins to 1976, when Journalism was first introduced as a specialization within the Bachelor's Program in Media, one of the earliest media programs established in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. In 2012, Journalism became an independent academic track under the Journalism Program pursuant to Administrative Decision No. 24158/Q, dated 30/11/1433 AH. In the 2018 academic year, the University Council approved the renaming of the Journalism Program to the Journalism and Digital Media Program under Administrative Decision No. 809098/40D, dated 6/7/1440 AH. The program awards a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Digital Media through a comprehensive academic curriculum that keeps pace with the rapid global developments in journalism and digital media. It prepares qualified media professionals equipped with advanced skills in writing, content production, and digital design, enabling them to contribute to national development initiatives and meet the evolving demands of the media industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2022, the program was comprehensively updated to align with the digital transformation of the media industry. It was further developed in 2026 and renamed the Bachelor of Digital Media Program, reflecting contemporary trends in media education and the evolving needs of the digital media sector.

Bachelor of Marketing Communication Program

MARKETING COMMUNICATION

The Advertising specialization was established in 1976 (1396 AH) as a track within the Media Program in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The Media Department at King Abdulaziz University is recognized as one of the earliest media programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2012 (1433 AH), a presidential decree approved the transformation of the Media Program into the College of Communication and Media, which comprises four academic programs, including the Marketing Communication Program. In 2020 (1441 AH), the University Council approved the new curriculum for the Marketing Communication Program. The curriculum was developed based on internationally recognized academic models and designed to address the evolving needs of the labor market in advertising, marketing communication, and brand development. In 2022, the program was updated to strengthen its focus on digital communication, marketing through contemporary digital platforms, brand building, and the management of marketing campaigns in digital environments. The program underwent a further revision in 2026 to keep pace with the rapid transformation of the communication and marketing industries. The updated curriculum provides students with comprehensive professional preparation in marketing planning, advertising message development, multi-platform campaign management, audience and data analysis, equipping graduates with the competencies required by commercial, creative, and institutional sectors.

In 1396 AH (1976), the Public Relations Track was established as a specialization within the Media Program at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The Media Program at King Abdulaziz University is recognized as one of the earliest media programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1433 AH (2012), a decision issued by the University President approved the transformation of the Media Program into the Faculty of Communication and Media, which comprises four academic programs, including the Public Relations Program. In 1441 AH (2020), the University Council approved the new curriculum for the Public Relations Program, which is distinguished by its alignment with internationally recognized academic programs and its responsiveness to labor market needs. The program was further updated in 2022 to strengthen its focus on digital communication, reputation management, and corporate identity development in digital environments. It was revised again in 2026 to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the communication industry by offering a comprehensive professional education that equips students with contemporary competencies in corporate communication, communication campaign planning, stakeholder and media relations management, and communication in multicultural environments, preparing graduates to meet the evolving demands of government agencies, private-sector organizations, and non-profit institutions.

AUDIO AND VISUAL PRODUCTION

In 1396 AH (1976), the Radio and Television Track was established as a specialization within the Department of Media at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The Media Program at King Abdulaziz University is recognized as one of the earliest media programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1433 AH (2012), a decision issued by the University President approved the transformation of the Media Program into the Faculty of Communication and Media, which included four academic programs, among them the Directing and Design Program. In 1440 AH (2018), the University Council approved changing the name of the Directing and Design Program to the Audiovisual Production Program. In 1441 AH (2020), the University Council approved the new curriculum for the Audiovisual Production Program. The curriculum is distinguished by its alignment with internationally recognized academic programs and its responsiveness to the evolving needs of the labor market.
