"About the Department The Department of Shari'ah and Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King Abdulaziz University, was established in the academic year 1400/1401 AH (1980/1981). Initially known as the Department of Islamic Studies, its name was changed to the ""Department of Shari'ah and Islamic Studies" in the academic year 1433/1434 AH (2012/2013), following a recommendation by the University Council during its first session. The department strives to provide distinguished education in Islamic law (Shari'ah) and Islamic studies, focusing on understanding and interpreting the principles of Shari'ah in various aspects of social and human life. It aims to equip students with profound knowledge in Shari'ah sciences, including jurisprudence (fiqh), principles of jurisprudence (usul al-fiqh), Quranic exegesis (tafsir), Hadith, Islamic creed (aqeedah), and comparative jurisprudence, along with the study of Islamic thought through modern, in-depth, and objective academic methodologies. The department offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to graduate specialists capable of making meaningful contributions to local and international communities. It also promotes scientific research in Shari'ah and Islamic thought, working to disseminate Islamic knowledge while reinforcing religious and ethical values.
