About the Department The Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King Abdulaziz University, was established in the academic year 1397/1398 AH. Initially, it provided academic services to university students in the field of Arabic language requirements without awarding academic degrees. In 1399 AH, the university’s Higher Council approved a recommendation from the University Council to transform the department into a fully integrated academic department offering a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Literature. The department is one of the leading academic departments aimed at enhancing the study of the Arabic language and its literature by teaching various branches, such as syntax, morphology, rhetoric, classical and modern Arabic literature, linguistic jurisprudence, and phonetics. Additionally, it covers the study of the arts of Arabic literature, including poetry, prose, and drama. The department offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, endeavors to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the Arabic language while developing their writing and literary analysis skills. This prepares them to work in fields such as education, journalism, media, and translation. The department also encourages scientific research in Arabic language and literature and contributes to preserving Arab cultural identity while advancing the development of society in language, education, and culture.
