Department of Landscape Architecture

The Department of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, King Abdulaziz University, is a specialized department concerned with the study of the relationship between the built environment and the natural surroundings. It aims to provide innovative architectural solutions that enhance positive interaction between buildings and their surrounding environment. The department was established in 1396 AH / 1976 AD and was among the earliest departments to offer an undergraduate program in Landscape Architecture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. The program was developed in collaboration with faculty members from Harvard University to align with contemporary trends in sustainable architecture that integrate environmental, social, and economic dimensions into design. The department offers specialized academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and promotes critical and creative thinking among students through practical projects aimed at improving the built environment and enhancing human and community well-being. The Department of Landscape Architecture seeks to graduate professionals capable of designing built environments that contribute to the conservation of natural resources and the achievement of sustainable development through the application of the latest technologies and best practices.
