The Department of Special Education is the second department to be established within the Faculty of Education, founded in 2006 (1427 AH) as an extension of the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education, which was previously offered under the Educational Diploma Program. This program was later transformed into an institute and subsequently evolved into the Faculty of Educational Graduate Studies in 2017 (1439 AH). The department currently offers a Master’s Program in Special Education (courses and thesis track) to enhance students’ research and academic skills, as well as a Professional Master’s Program in Special Education to strengthen applied and professional training based on evidence-based practices. It is also in the process of launching a Ph.D. program in Special Education, aiming to remain at the forefront of academic and research advancements and to prepare highly qualified specialists capable of meeting the needs of the educational field. Furthermore, the department places strong emphasis on social responsibility by implementing initiatives and fostering partnerships that empower individuals with disabilities and their families, while promoting community awareness of related issues.
