The final rounds of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition were held at the
national level in its second edition, with the participation of 11 Saudi universities. Held
under the patronage of King Abdulaziz University President Dr. Tareef bin Youssef
Alaama, the competition was organized by the university’s Faculty of Human
Sciences and Design on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the auditorium of the King Fahd
Medical Research Center.
The finals featured 11 contestants from universities across the Kingdom. The 3MT
competition challenges postgraduate students to present a clear and concise
summary of their research and its significance in just three minutes, before a diverse,
non-specialist audience, using only one presentation slide.
Contestants were evaluated according to precise criteria, including clarity of content,
effective communication skills with the audience, and other related aspects. The
competition aims to enhance students’ presentation, scientific research, and
academic communication skills, while enabling them to explain their research
effectively.
In its second national edition, the competition also sought to encourage postgraduate
students across the Kingdom to simplify and present their research, while promoting
a culture of scientific research and academic excellence.
At the conclusion of the competition, winners were honored with awards in
recognition of their research excellence and academic creativity. In this year’s edition,
researcher Aroob Khaled Barshid from King Abdulaziz University won first place,
while researcher Taghreed bint Atiyah Al-Mutairi from Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal
University won second place. Researcher Maqbool Issa Maqbool Oraibi from Jazan
University placed third.
