Established in 1977, the Nuclear Engineering (NE) program was created to meet the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s needs in nuclear power, radiation safety, and radioisotope applications in medicine and industry. The program provides a rigorous foundation in nuclear engineering principles, preparing graduates for professional practice and further study in the nuclear and radiological engineering sectors; the program currently enrolls 100 students, and recent department graduation statistics are 15 (2024/2025), 9 (2023/2024), 19 (2022/2023), 10 (2021/2022), and 8 (2020/2021). The program has held ABET accreditation since 2008, with the most recent general review visit in 2021. The Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Nuclear, Radiological, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
