20260412890The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Production and Mechanical Systems Design) is offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at King Abdulaziz University. The program provides an integrated mechanical engineering education with particular emphasis on the design, analysis, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, components, equipment, and production processes. The curriculum establishes a strong foundation in mathematics, basic sciences, engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials science, computing, and engineering economics. Students then develop specialized competence in mechanical engineering drawings, machine-element design, mechanical design, mechanics of materials, machine dynamics, mechanical vibrations, system dynamics and control, manufacturing technology, machining and material-removal processes, computer-aided design, metrology, quality control, manufacturing planning, maintenance, and fault diagnosis. Students may broaden their technical knowledge through elective study in reverse engineering, finite-element analysis, tribology, materials selection, machine-tool design, advanced manufacturing, composite materials, computer-aided manufacturing, welding technology, metal forming, robotics, mechatronics, mechanisms, and mechanical-system modelling and simulation. The program emphasizes experiential learning through engineering workshops, laboratory experimentation, computer applications, design projects, industrial training, and a culminating senior design project. Students gain experience using modern engineering tools and facilities related to CAD, CNC machining, quality inspection, materials testing, fault diagnosis, composite manufacturing, and additive manufacturing. Graduates are prepared to analyse, design, manufacture, automate, test, operate, maintain, and improve mechanical systems and industrial products while considering performance, safety, quality, reliability, manufacturability, economic feasibility, environmental impact, and sustainability. They are equipped for professional practice in manufacturing, mechanical design, automation, maintenance, transportation, energy, oil and gas, petrochemicals, construction, consulting, and other industrial sectors, as well as for entrepreneurship, research, and postgraduate study.
