1The student will learn about the types of natural hazards: such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, plate tectonics, flood hazards, erosion and sinkhole processes, their causes and how to deal with them.
2The student will develop his understanding of the types and conditions of foundation construction, load-bearing theories of shallow foundations, cohesive and non-cohesive soil behavior, deep foundations, ground pressures and lateral supports, seepage analysis and slope stability, and field applications.
3Students will learn the basics of engineering geology, geological sites, earth materials, various geological processes, selection of suitable sites for construction and development, geological resources, and the effects of engineering projects on the environment.
4The student will learn about the types of rock masses, stress-strain relationships, methods for identifying strong rocks and discontinuous surfaces, as well as the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and the nature and geometric properties of discontinuous surfaces.
5The student will understand engineering geological considerations, soil and rock mass description, rock mass classification for engineering purposes, engineering geological maps and their applications, and will also learn about methods of improving rocks and soils such as grout, drainage, and soil strengthening.
6The student will learn methods of studying engineering sites, drilling and boring equipment and their applications in soil and rock, taking disturbed and undisturbed samples, conducting on-site tests to determine the strength of soil or rock, in addition to laboratory tests of samples collected from sites, writing reports and interpreting the engineering geological properties of sites.
7The student will learn about engineering geological considerations when examining highways, bridges, slopes, dams, tunnels, rivers, beaches, salt marshes, sand dunes and selected urban sites, methods of analyzing and presenting engineering geological data, and writing engineering geological reports and case study reports.

Learning Outcomes

Students will learn the fundamentals of engineering geology and geological sites, Earth materials and geological processes and Types of waste disposal, methods of disposal and site selections, Mineral resources and environmental impacts.
Students will understand the General, Types of Natural hazards: hazardous earth processes such as Earthquakes, Volcanic activity, plate tectonics, Flooding Hazards, Erosion processes and Cavities.
Develop and understanding of types and conditions of foundations, bearing capacity theories in shallow foundations, settlements in cohesive and non-cohesive soils, deep foundations, earth pressures and lateral supports, seepage analysis and stability of slopes, and field applications.
Students will acquire knowledge about rock masses, stress-strain relationships, intact rock and discontinuity surfaces. Physical and mechanical properties of intact rock and nature of orientation of discontinuity surfaces. Engineering properties of discontinuity surfaces.
Students will learn about engineering geological considerations such as; description of soils and rock masses and classification of rock masses for engineering purposes. Engineering geological maps and their applications. Rock and soil improvement such as grouting, drains and reinforcement of ground.
Develop an understanding of planning and site investigation techniques. Drilling and boring equipment's and its application in investigation for soils and rocks. Disturbed and undisturbed sampling. In-situ testing to determine the strength of the soils or rocks. Laboratory testing of samples collected from the sites. Report writing and interpretation of the site engineering geological characteristics.
Learn about important engineering geological considerations while investigating highways, bridges, slopes, dams, tunnels, rivers, beaches, sabkha, sand dunes, and selected sites for urban areas. Methods of analysis and presentation of engineering geological data. Engineering geological reports and case studies.

Apply fundamental and advanced knowledge of geology, engineering geology, environmental geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology, and geomorphology to understand earth materials, geological processes, and their engineering and environmental implications.Identify, analyze, and interpret geological, geotechnical, and environmental problems using appropriate scientific methods, field observations, laboratory data, maps, models, and engineering judgement.Conduct geological fieldwork, site investigations, sampling, laboratory testing, and data collection safely and accurately, following professional and scientific standards.Evaluate ground conditions, slope stability, soil and rock behavior, groundwater conditions, geological hazards, environmental impacts, and site suitability for engineering projects and land-use planning.Use modern geological and engineering tools such as GIS, remote sensing, geophysical methods, geotechnical software, laboratory instruments, digital mapping, and data analysis tools.Develop practical, safe, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for engineering geology and environmental geology problems, including hazard mitigation, ground improvement, and environmental protection.Apply research skills, critical thinking, and evidence-based reasoning to investigate geological problems, review scientific literature, interpret data, and support decision-making.Communicate geological and engineering information clearly through technical reports, maps, drawings, presentations, and professional discussions in both written and oral forms.Demonstrate integrity, professional ethics, responsibility, and respect for safety, environmental protection, and regulatory requirements.Work effectively as an individual and as part of multidisciplinary teams involving geologists, engineers, planners, environmental specialists, and decision-makers.Integrate sustainability principles, environmental conservation, climate awareness, and risk reduction into engineering and geological practice.Recognize the need for continuous professional development and stay updated with advances in engineering geology, environmental geology, technology, standards, and regulations.
