About the Program

The Program focuses on the study of geological structures, including analysis of deformations, stresses, and tectonic processes that shape the Earth’s. It also emphasizes the application of advanced technologies, including Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to investigate and interpret geological and environmental data. The program equips students with a strong foundation in geological sciences while developing essential fieldwork and analytical competencies. Graduates gain the ability to interpret geological structures, produce specialized geological maps, and conduct field investigations with precision, efficiency, and scientific rigor.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate understanding of fundamental concepts of general geology, including geological processes, rock and mineral formation, sediments, sedimentary rocks, sedimentary basins, and basic geochemical processes.
Explian the principles of structural geology, tectonics, and the geological evolution of the Earth at regional and global scales, with emphasis on the Arabian Shield and Platform of Saudi Arabia.
Describe major tectonic events and deformation processes and their relationship to plate tectonics and geological structures, including key tectonic episodes that shaped the structural and tectonic evolution of the Arabian Plate
Explain the theoretical principles of remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and geospatial data acquisition..
Describe the principles of geological surveying, geological mapping, and subsurface data interpretation.
Explain the role of geology in natural resource exploration, natural hazard assessment, and sustainable development, particularly within the Saudi geological context.
Apply field geology skills, including geological observation, surveying, mapping, and three-dimensional geological interpretation.
Use remote sensing, GIS, and geospatial technologies to process , analyze and interpret geological and environmental data..
Analyze and integrate geological and structural data using maps, cross-sections, field and laboratory observations, imagery, and specialized software.
Apply geological knowledge and analytical methods to support natural resource exploration and natural hazard assessment.
