Overview:

The Faculty of Nursing at King Abdulaziz University is strongly committed to preparing its students for real-world professional environments through structured training programs, including Internship & Clinical Rotations. These programs aim to strengthen students’ knowledge, develop their clinical and professional skills, and bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application—aligning with the demands of the healthcare sector and both local and international quality standards.

Program Objectives:

  • Enhance communication skills and the abiliork within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Refine clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Contribute to preparing qualified healthcare practitioners who support the healthcare sector and Saudi Vision 2030.

1.Clinical Training in Courses:


Clinical training is one of the core components of the curriculum for students at the Faculty of Nursing, King Abdulaziz University. It aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application by training students in various clinical departments within hospitals and health centers. The program enables students to acquire practical skills and professional experience in real healthcare settings under the supervision of qualified faculty members and clinical instructors.

Application Process:

  1. Academic Registration:
    The college registers the clinical courses as part of the semester curriculum through the university’s academic registration system.

  2. Group Allocation:
    Once registration is complete, the college assigns students to accredited hospitals and health centers according to a set schedule that considers the training site’s capacity.

  3. Coordination with Training Sites:
    The college issues official letters with the names of accepted students for each clinical training and shares them with the respective training sites.

  4. Orientation and Guidance:
    Prior to the start of training, students attend an orientation session covering training objectives, requirements, and evaluation methods.

  5. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    Students undergo periodic assessments by the academic supervisor and the clinical supervisor at the training site, with strict adherence to attendance and regulations.

Training Schedule:

  • Conducted throughout the study years according to the approved curriculum for each semester, distributed across hospitals and health centers.

2.Internship Program:


The Internship Program is the final stage in preparing nursing students before entering the job market. It aims to enable students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their years of study in a real-world clinical setting.

The program extends over one full academic year, during which trainees are assigned to various accredited hospitals and health centers under the direct supervision of experienced academic and clinical instructors. This program allows students to gain diverse hands-on experience in different areas of nursing, enhance their ability to communicate effectively, make informed decisions, and uphold professional and ethical responsibilities.

Completion of the Internship Program is a prerequisite for graduation and earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Students undergo comprehensive evaluations that reflect their readiness to join the workforce and contribute efficiently to the community and healthcare sector.

 


Application Process for the Internship Program:

  1. Program Announcement:

    • The Faculty of Nursing announces the start dates and fieldwork schedule of the Internship Program through the college website and official communication channels.

  2. Online Registration:

    • Students complete the Internship Program application form via the ERS system and submit the required documents, including the academic transcript, student ID, and a copy of the national ID.

  3. Eligibility Criteria:

    • Successful completion of all academic courses.

    • Fulfillment of the academic and training requirements set by the college.

  4. Trainee Allocation:

    • The Internship Committee coordinates with accredited hospitals and health centers to allocate students based on site capacity and specialty requirements.

  5. Issuance of Training Letters:

    • Official training letters are prepared for each training site, accompanied by the program schedule and training plan.

  6. Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Trainees are regularly assessed through periodic reports submitted by the academic and clinical supervisors. Midterm and final evaluation meetings are held to measure performance levels.

 


Internship Training Schedule:

  • Duration: 12 consecutive months following the successful completion of all academic requirements.

  • Start Date: Typically begins in August or September (First Semester) of each academic year, with additional batches opened based on the needs of hospitals and health centers.

  • Training System:

    • Trainees rotate through various departments (Emergency, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Intensive Care, Community Health, etc.) according to an approved plan.

    • Each department rotation lasts between 6–8 weeks, as determined by the college.

  • Working Hours:

    • Trainees follow the shifts scheduled by the hospital or training center (morning/evening/night), in alignment with clinical work requirements.

3.Summer Training Program:
The Summer Training Program in hospitals for nursing students is a practical initiative designed to prepare and qualify students to integrate into the healthcare environment by providing them with direct, hands-on experience in nursing. During the program, students participate in delivering nursing care under the supervision of qualified nursing staff, which enhances their clinical and cognitive skills and develops their ability to interact with patients and healthcare teams.

 

Application Process for the Summer Training Program:

  1. Program Announcement:

    • The Faculty of Nursing announces the start dates for the Summer Training Program.

  2. Online Registration:

    • Students complete the application form for the Summer Training Program electronically through the ERS system.

  3. Issuance of Training Letters:

    • Official training letters are prepared for the respective training sites and sent to the designated healthcare facilities.

  4. Program Commencement:

    • Once the hospital accepts the trainee and the requirements are completed, the program officially begins.

 

Training Schedule:

  • Duration: 1 month during the summer semester.

  • Start Date: July (Summer Semester).

Working Hours: 8 hours per day, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
