Social Responsibility and Volunteering

Published on 23 September 2026

Faculty of Marine Sciences participated in the "Keep an Eye on the Sea" (#6) campaign, organized by the "Linubadir" (Let’s Take Initiative) volunteer and community partnership program, in collaboration with Al Baik Food Systems and various government and private entities, coinciding with the Saudi National Day celebrations.

"Keep an Eye on the Sea" is an environmental volunteer initiative launched in Jeddah, aimed at raising awareness about protecting the marine environment, reducing pollutants, promoting volunteerism, enhancing the urban landscape and quality of life, supporting the sustainability of marine resources, and protecting coral reefs.

The campaign saw the participation of numerous volunteers and divers who contributed to cleaning beaches and the seabed, as well as removing waste. Furthermore, the Faculty of Marine Sciences provided educational and cultural programs and interactive activities focused on the components of the marine environment and methods for its protection. This included a hands-on workshop for children on the importance of coral reefs—highlighting their role in supporting biodiversity and ecological balance—as well as an introduction to the concept of mariculture (marine farming) through a safe, educational simulation.
