The Department of Mathematics was established with the founding of the Faculty of Sciences in 1394/1393 AH (corresponding to 1974/1973 AD). Initially, it included a Statistics section, which became an independent department in the academic year 1402/1401 AH, and a Computer Science section, which became a separate department in 1405 AH. The Department of Mathematics is considered one of the key academic departments in the Faculty of Sciences. It focuses on teaching and training students in various areas of theoretical and applied mathematics, while also integrating these fields to find innovative and logical solutions to scientific challenges faced by society and the world. The department aims to provide students with fundamental and advanced knowledge in mathematics, covering areas such as algebra, mathematical analysis, geometry, statistics, applied mathematics, and modern techniques in mathematical sciences. It also emphasizes the development of students' analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to solve complex problems in various scientific and industrial fields. The department offers academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, where students learn the basic principles of mathematics as well as its applications in fields such as science, engineering, economics, and technology. The department also places significant emphasis on scientific research in various branches of mathematics, participating in research projects aimed at developing new mathematical techniques and their practical applications. The Department of Mathematics endeavors to prepare a generation of specialists capable of innovating and contributing to solving complex challenges in diverse fields such as technology, industry, and economics. This, in turn, supports sustainable development and contributes to achieving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
