MARINE GEOLOGY

The Department of Marine Geology was established in 1398 AH corresponding to 1978 AD as one of the important scientific departments in the Faculty of Marine Sciences at King Abdulaziz University. The Department of Marine Geology at the Faculty of Marine Sciences is the only scientific department in the Middle East that aims to study the composition and formation of the sea beds and edges of sea basins and the mineral and non-metallic mineral resources they store, oil and gas. One of the most important features of the department is the distinction of its academic members who have graduated with high degrees from the most famous American, European and Japanese universities in the fields of geology and ocean sciences. As well as the distinction of its technical and administrative staff. The Department of Marine Geology has made research contributions over the past three decades and has played a major role in the studies of the Red Sea as well as the Arabian Gulf. The Department of Marine Geology is unique in granting bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in marine geology, where the student studies a group of subjects in the Department of Marine Geology in addition to marine chemistry, marine biology, marine physics, and other natural sciences that qualifies him for academic, research, and industrial sites in the service of the country. The department's outputs are related to the various fields interrelated with oil and gas companies, marine environmental organizations and bodies, as well as marine and geological cadastral authorities. The administrative, educational and financial matters of the Marine Geology Department are implemented and activated in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations through the department’s council, which consists of the department head and their Excellences members of the Council.
