The Department of Marine Chemistry is one of the specialized departments focused on studying the chemical properties of seawater and the chemical elements present in it. The department was established in 1401 AH when the Institute of Marine Sciences was converted into the Faculty of Marine Sciences. The department focuses on understanding the chemical interactions occurring in the marine environment, including interactions between water and gases, minerals, organic materials, and marine sediments. It also studies the impact of environmental factors such as pollution, climate change, and acid rain on the chemical composition of the oceans. The department aims to study the chemical processes that affect marine life, including the role of chemical elements in the sustainability of marine ecosystems. Additionally, the department strives to develop methods and techniques for analyzing seawater and pollutants, which helps protect the marine environment and explore marine resources.
