The Department of Home Economics Education was established in 1401 AH (1981) as the first department in the Faculty of Human Sciences and Design (formerly the Faculty of Home Economics) at King Abdulaziz University. In line with the faculty’s development and restructuring efforts, the department was renamed the "Department of Family Sciences" through Administrative Decision No. 3198/Q dated 22/2/1435 AH (corresponding to December 25, 2013), based on Higher Education Council Decision No. 38/74/1434 dated 9/11/1434 AH (September 15, 2013). The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Family Sciences and a Master of Science in Family Sciences, establishing itself as one of the foundational pillars of the college. The department aims to prepare distinguished professionals specializing in diverse fields of family sciences, including nutrition and food science, fashion design, and family resource management. Its academic programs combine theoretical education with practical training, equipping graduates with the skills needed to contribute to sustainable development and meet the demands of the job market. Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the department emphasizes academic and research excellence by offering innovative educational programs that leverage the latest scientific technologies. It provides a comprehensive learning environment featuring advanced laboratories and facilities that support practical education while encouraging research to address societal challenges.
