The Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering at King Abdulaziz University was established in 1981/1982 to meet the Kingdom’s growing needs in industry and technology, as well as to leverage its vast petroleum and mineral resources. The department aims to train students in the applications of chemical engineering across various industries, while also studying and developing materials and their properties. It provides students with both fundamental and applied knowledge necessary to manage chemical processes and industrial material processing, whether in petrochemical industries, water and energy treatment, or the development of new materials. The department offers academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, where students learn to design and operate complex chemical processes, as well as study the properties of materials used in these processes. It also focuses on scientific research to improve process efficiency, sustainable processing techniques, and the design of materials that meet future needs. The department aims to equip students with the skills needed to solve complex engineering problems and contribute to the advancement of industry and technology.
